ACTIVITY IDEAS
FOR THE BLACKBOARD OR WHITEBOARD
Yes/No Questions Board Game: On the board, write down all the short answer types that you want to practice with your students (see example below) - because this will take one or two minutes, this is best done either before the class, or while the students are working independently on another activity.
Also, prepare a list of Yes/No questions (or use the questions in the above activity - 'Grammar Dictation').
Next, divide the class into two teams. Have two volunteers come to the front of the class and give each student a marker or piece of chalk. Then, ask a 'Yes/No' question, such as, 'Are you a student?' The first student to circle the correct short answer gets one point for their team.
Have the two students switch with two of their seated classmates, and continue as above, until all or most of your students have had a chance at the board. Encourage seated students to shout aloud suggestions to their teammates at the board. Applaud the winning team.
Warning: this is a very fun and noisy activity, so if your classroom walls are not very soundproof, you might want to notify the neighboring teacher beforehand!
